Itinerary:

Day 1 : Sunset camel ride in the Agafay Desert

Meet your driver at your hotel/riad and begin a 45-minute journey southwest of Marrakech through olive and orange groves to reach the Agafay Desert.

Upon arrival, meet your camel caravan and dress like a nomad in a blue tunic and headscarf. After taking some photos in your new attire and being introduced to your camel, begin an hour-long camel ride through the stunning landscapes of the arid terrain. While the terrain may feature lush green vegetation during the spring rainy season, the views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains on the horizon are breathtaking.

Just in time for sunset, head to a high plateau where you’ll enjoy a cup of mint tea while watching the sunset change color on the horizon.

Before nightfall, return with your driver to Marrakech to be dropped off at your hotel/riad or a location in the city center.

The Agafay Desert is a smooth rock desert with dune-like hills; there are no sand dunes in the Agafay Desert.

Is it comfortable to ride a camel?

It may feel uncomfortable if you ride a camel for the first time, but it is not that difficult to learn. Don’t worry, you’ll acquire the skill very quickly.

How many people can ride a camel at once?

Normally, an adult and a child can comfortably ride a camel. But, on rare occasions, two adults can ride a camel at a time, depending on their gross weight. An average adult camel can carry 150Kg (330lbs) comfortably.

How should you dress for camel riding in Marrakech?

During your camel ride in Marrakech, dress comfortably; It is not recommended to wear shorts or skirts to avoid contact with the skin of camels and saddles. In case of high temperatures, it is highly advisable to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and bottles of fresh water. Your camel operator will offer you traditional Tuareg clothing for you to wear during your camel ride (blue scarf and tunic).
