Our 3-day Merzouga Desert Tour from Marrakech has been our most popular tour package for many years. This 3-day excursion from Marrakech offers a unique opportunity to discover the authentic Sahara and experience a few days in the Moroccan desert, with its sand dunes, oases, kasbahs, and rocky landscapes. You’ll also feel the tranquility of this environment and enjoy activities such as camel riding across the dunes or spending a night in the heart of the Sahara Desert.

Itinerary:

Day 1 :MARRAKECH – BOUMALNE DADES (06:00H BY CAR)

This 3-day Merzouga Desert excursion from Marrakech will begin around 7:00 AM from your riad or hotel. The tour starts with a journey to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou via the famous Tizi N’tichka pass and through the High Atlas Mountains. Due to the challenging terrain, we will make several stops to see sites like Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most beautiful places in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has also served as a filming location for Hollywood movies such as Gladiator. After this stop, we will continue our journey to Ouarzazate and visit Kasbah Taourirt before lunch (only exterior views are permitted, as it is currently closed due to the earthquake) . In the afternoon, we will travel to Boumalne Dades, passing through the Valley of Roses.

Day 2:BOUMALNE DADES – MERZOUGA (04:00H BY CAR)

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll take Highway 1001 towards Tinghir to enjoy a walk along the banks of the Todgha River and visit some of the Berber villages and ksours that still dot the area. Finally, we’ll arrive at the breathtaking cliff-lined Todgha Gorges. After lunch in the gorges, we’ll continue on to Erg Chebbi, where we’ll find a camel caravan near the end of the road. This will allow us to enjoy a camel ride through the desert as the sunset paints the sky with vibrant colors.
At this point, we’ll drive back to our camp in the Sahara Desert to savor a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars, accompanied by the crackling fire and the soothing sounds of drums played by the nomads.

Day 3:MERZOUGA – MARRAKECH (09:00H BY CAR)

Finally, on this third day, our mission will be to return to Marrakech. To do this, after breakfast, take the car back to Marrakech, passing through the Dades Valley, Ouarzazate, and the Tizi n’Tichka pass. And that’s it—you will have completed your 3-day excursion to the Merzouga desert from Marrakech. The last stop will be your hotel or riad.

What is the meeting point?

We will pick you up at your accommodation indicated in the booking, at 7:30 am.

What to pack in your luggage?

It depends on the time of year you visit. In winter, the weather is cold in Morocco, especially in the desert at night, so check a weather website first to get a better idea of ​​the exact conditions for the days you’ll be here. In early summer, from May to September, temperatures in this country reach 35-40 degrees Celsius, so you should pack as if you were going straight to the beach. You can even add to your itinerary to visit our beaches like Essaouira, Agadir, Tangier, and Casablanca, just to name a few. We have daily tours available.

Which route should you select?

The Zagora excursion is for those visiting the country for a couple of days and who don’t want to miss the opportunity to see the dunes at least once. In Zagora, the dunes are much smaller than in Merzouga but no less beautiful. Both have the magic of the desert, and the logistics until we reach Ouarzazate are the same since it’s the same route. On this excursion, the first and only night you will sleep in the Zagora desert camp.

The excursion to Merzouga, since it is further away than Zagora, is offered as a 3-day excursion; the first night is in Dades Georges and the second night you will sleep in the Merzouga camp.

On the fence to book the private or shared tour?

The Sahara Desert tour from Marrakech is offered as a shared tour, meaning you will be accompanied by 16 other travelers from all over the world. The driver speaks English and local languages.

The private tour we offer can be with a driver who speaks Spanish, English, or French, depending on availability (if you need another language, please let us know). The tour is conducted only with the people traveling with you; the minimum is two people, but we can make an exception if you are traveling alone, and an additional fee will apply.

Traveling alone?

There are some taboos we sometimes hear from different countries, and stories we don’t know if they’re true or not, but I highly recommend that if you have the opportunity to travel alone to this country, it’s something you should definitely do! There’s nothing to worry about, especially if you’re a woman. The only thing that might be uncomfortable is if a vendor is begging you to buy their products, and that’s about it. The city is full of tourists year-round, and security is especially attentive to tourists.

Wow wow wow! Despite being scared of heights, my wife and I booked this as a 50th birthday treat. This was worth the money and more!!! Great breakfast at the camp, then taken to the field for departure where we saw our balloon getting prepared. Once your in the ballon there is a sense of peacefulness, helped along by our brilliant pilot who spoke good English, and had a wicked sense of humour which helps with any nerves you have. I’d do it again and again! What a professional, safety conscious company! 5 stars 🌟 from us!

Wir haben die Ballonfahrt eine Abend vorher gebucht und hierfür auch eine Buchungsbestätigung erhalten. Als Treffpunkt wurde 4:30 Uhr vor unserem Hotel vereinbart. Am nächsten morgen warteten wir jedoch 45 Minuten vor unserem Hotel auf den versprochenen Fahrer aber niemand kam und niemand war erreichbar. Als wir endlich jemanden erreichen konnten wurde uns lediglich gesagt dass der Ballon bereits ausgebucht ist und wir trotz Buchungsbestätigung nicht kommen können. Das Geld haben wir zurückbekommen, der Tag war für uns jedoch gelaufen. Man sollte keine Buchungsbestätigungen verschicken für Buchungen die bereits ausgebucht sind. Ein simples „ausgebucht“ hätte es getan.

Der Flug hat Spaß gemacht, lief alles super, von der Abholung über das Camp, den Flug, den Transfer zurück. Ich hatte nicht gedacht, dass man sich so sicher im Korb fühlt, trotz dessen, dass ich am Rand stand. Ist also auch wirklich für die zu empfehlen, die sich sagen “Höhe ist nicht so meins”.

Dringend abraten muss ich allerdings von dem Zusatzservice (vom Anbieter engagiertes Dritt-Unternehmen). Vor Ort werden für 20-30€ Fotos und Videos angeboten. Ich musste neun Wochen hinterherrennen, wurde mit Ausreden und Lügen hingehalten, bis zu der Aussage, der Flug habe an dem Tag gar nicht stattgefunden. Erst durch den Einsatz meines deutschen Piloten vor Ort (Danke Tom!) habe ich nun mein Geld zurück erhalten.
