Day 1 :Marrakech – Dades (7 hours by car)

The desert excursion from Marrakech to Fez in Morocco will begin around 7:00 AM, when we will pick you up from your riad/hotel. We depart from Jemaa el-Afna and head towards Kasbah Ait Benhaddou via the Tizi n’Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains. We will make several stops along the way, most notably a visit to the Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which has also served as a backdrop for several Hollywood blockbusters. Afterwards, we will continue to Ouarzazate and visit Kasbah Taourirt before lunch (only exterior views are permitted, as it is currently closed due to the earthquake). In the afternoon, we will travel to Boumalne Dades through the Valley of Roses before arriving at our guesthouse located in the Dades Valley.

Day 2:Dades – Merzouga (4 hours by car)

After breakfast, the journey begins along the Road of 1001 Kasbahs to the Tinghir Oasis. You’ll enjoy breathtaking scenery as you pass through the remaining fortified villages that once served as caravan routes until the early 20th century. Upon reaching Tinghir, which was a military outpost during the French occupation, we’ll turn onto a secondary road leading to the oasis. Feel free to stroll along the stream and observe the locals cultivating crops and tending their livestock. Your walk will culminate at one of the most striking sights of your trip: the Todgha Gorges. After lunch at a local cafe or restaurant, we continue to Rissani, one of Morocco’s holiest cities. It’s no coincidence that the Alaouite dynasty originated here, and their founder is buried here. Rissani is also renowned as the starting point for the ancient caravan routes that crossed the Sahara Desert to Timbuktu.

Once in the city, you’ll meet your new driver for the drive to Fez. After you’ve settled into your new vehicle, we’ll depart for Fez, crossing the Ziz Valley via Errachidia, the capital of the Tafilalt region, and continuing to Midelt, where we’ll have a leisurely lunch before continuing our journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains with their cedar forests and the Berber villages of Imouzzar and Ifran. FAQ:

What is the meeting point ?

We pick you up at your accommodation indicated in the reservation, at 7:30 am

What to pack in your luggage?

It depends on the time of year you visit us, in winter the weather is cold in Morocco and especially in the desert at night, so check first on a weather page to know better and exactly for the days you will be here, in early summer, let’s say from May to September, As we know, this country reaches 35-40 degrees, so you should choose your clothes as if you were having a direct trip to the beach. And you can even add to your list of trips to visit our beaches such as Essaouira, Agadir, Tangier, White House just to mention a few of them, we have daily tours available.

Which route should you select?

The excursion to Zagora is for those who visit the country for a couple of days and do not want to miss the opportunity to see once the dunes, in Zagora the dunes are much smaller than Merzouga but no less beautiful, the two of them have the magic of the desert and the logistics until we reach Ouarzazate is the same as it is the same road, on this first and only night tour you will sleep in the desert camp of Zagora.

The Merzouga tour, as it is further away than Zagora, is offered as a 3 days tour the first night is in Dades Georges and the second night you will sleep in the Merzouga camp.

On the fence to book the private or shared tour?

The Sahara desert tour from Marrakech is offered as shared, which means that you will be accompanied by 16 more travelers from all over the world, the languages spoken by the driver are English and the local languages.

The private tour we offer in Spanish and local languages, the tour is done only with the people traveling with you, the minimum is 2 people, but we can also make an exception if you are just a traveler and an additional amount will be added.

Traveling alone?

There are some taboos that we hear sometimes from different countries and stories that we don’t know if they are true or not, but I will recommend that if you have the opportunity to travel alone to this country, it is something you should do! There is nothing to worry about, especially if you are a woman, the only thing that can be uncomfortable is that a vendor is begging you to buy their products and nothing else, the city is full of tourists all year round and security especially takes care of tourism.
