Description :

A 2-day excursion to the Zagora desert from Marrakech is a perfect option for those who want to visit the Sahara Desert but have limited time. The excursion lasts only two days and has a capacity of 17 people.

Itinerary :

Day 1 :Marrakech – Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Zagora (7 hours drive)

This 2-day excursion to the Zagora Desert from Marrakech begins at 7:00 AM from your riad/hotel. We’ll depart together from the center of Marrakech, embarking on an adventure to cross the Tizi N’tichka pass (2260 m altitude) and then pass through various Berber adobe villages.

We’ll stop at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou , a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the setting for several world-renowned films, where you can experience the Kasbahs firsthand. You’ll also have the option to join a guided tour of the area (service not included; €2.00 per person with a local guide). Afterward, the journey continues to Ouarzazate, where you’ll have free time for lunch at one of the many local restaurants or cafes.

In the afternoon, we’ll cross the northeastern part of the Atlas Mountains towards the Agdz oasis. We’ll then make a quick stop in the town center to admire the incredible scenery of the Draa Valley with its fortified kasbahs and its splendid oasis surrounded by hundreds of thousands of date palms. Interestingly, the Draa Valley is home to the largest date palm plantation in Morocco, making it a truly worthwhile sight.

Upon arriving at the Zagora Desert in the late afternoon/evening, we’ll meet our camel caravans and begin our camel trek. Using this traditional mode of transport, we’ll traverse the sand dunes of the Zagora Desert, watching the sunset (approximately one hour). Before nightfall, we’ll head to our Berber desert camp, located in the heart of the Zagora Desert . To end the day in the best way, dinner will be served under the stars, where we will enjoy the company of local people who will entertain you with their drums and stories.

Planned or similar camps:

Day 2 :Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

Early in the morning, at the agreed-upon time, the camp hosts will wake you up so you can enjoy the sunrise (if you wish), followed by breakfast. The desert tour concludes with another camel ride from the camp back to the vehicle that will take you to Ouarzazate. There, you will visit the  Taourirt Kasbah  , and in the afternoon, you will return to  Marrakech,  crossing the High Atlas Mountains once more.

The 2-day excursion to the Zagora desert from Marrakech  will end at Jamaa El Fna square, around 6:00 PM in summer and 7:00 PM in winter.

Important Information:

Includes:

  • Pick-up from your hotel/Riad in the center of Marrakech (or from the nearest accessible point).
  • Modern minibus (no more than 15-20 passengers)
  • English/French-speaking driver, Spanish-speaking possibility depending on availability at the time
  • Overnight in a Berber camp in the Zagora desert.
  • Camel ride between 40 minutes and one hour
  • Dinner and breakfast

Not included:

  • Beverages
  • Lunches on the way.
  • Optional local guide at Kasbah Ait Ben Hadou.
  • Personal expenses.
  • Guides (In this type of tour the guides are not always essential since we will not visit a large number of places with heritage, even so there are guides in the historical points that you can access at the moment with the group voluntarily for a small tip or symbolic amount of approximately 2-3 euros.

What is the meeting point?

We pick you up at your accommodation indicated in the reservation, at 7:30 am

What to pack in your luggage?

It depends on the time of year you visit us, in winter the weather is cold in Morocco and especially in the desert at night, so check first on a weather page to know better and exactly for the days you will be here, in early summer, let’s say from May to September, As we know, this country reaches 35-40 degrees, so you should choose your clothes as if you were having a direct trip to the beach. And you can even add to your list of trips to visit our beaches such as Essaouira, Agadir, Tangier, White House just to mention a few of them, we have daily tours available.

Which route should you select?

The excursion to Zagora is for those who visit the country for a couple of days and do not want to miss the opportunity to see once the dunes, in Zagora the dunes are much smaller than Merzouga but no less beautiful, the two of them have the magic of the desert and the logistics until we reach Ouarzazate is the same as it is the same road, on this first and only night tour you will sleep in the desert camp of Zagora.

The Merzouga tour, as it is further away than Zagora, is offered as a 3 days tour the first night is in Dades Georges and the second night you will sleep in the Merzouga camp.

On the fence to book the private or shared tour?

The Sahara desert tour from Marrakech is offered as shared, which means that you will be accompanied by 16 more travelers from all over the world, the languages spoken by the driver are English and the local languages.

The private tour we offer in Spanish and local languages, the tour is done only with the people traveling with you, the minimum is 2 people, but we can also make an exception if you are just a traveler and an additional amount will be added.

Traveling alone?

There are some taboos we sometimes hear from different countries, and stories we don’t know if they’re true or not, but I highly recommend that if you have the opportunity to travel alone to this country, it’s something you should definitely do! There’s nothing to worry about, especially if you’re a woman. The only thing that might be uncomfortable is if a vendor is begging you to buy their products, and that’s about it. The city is full of tourists year-round, and security is especially attentive to tourists.

¡Este es sin duda el mejor tour de 3 días que debes hacer! Merzouga fue alucinante, y tanto Toudra como Dades fueron igualmente impresionantes. Su planificación y organización fueron de primera categoría, y hablemos del conductor más increíble con el que viajamos: Brahim.
